Youth Sailing Week
During school holidays, our popular Youth Sailing Weeks allow youngsters to work through the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. Throughout this five day course each will take charge of their own dinghy, under the guidance of our instructors and safety crews. Completion of each stage of the YSS will earn students a certificate from the RYA. Students can expect to achieve Stage 1 after their first week. Certificates and skills can be used in other areas such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and GCSE or A-Level P.E. We aim to ensure all students have plenty of fun and learn new skills in a safe environment.
Beginners Week Course Content:
- Introduction to 7th Wave and Port Erin Bay
- Wind direction and points of the compass
- Taking the helm for the first time
- Sailing across the wind and turning the boat around
- Water-based activities and games
Skills Weeks for students who have sailed before:
- Students continue in the RS Teras to complete RYA Stages 2 and 3
- Skills are signed off in the logbook as students progress
- More water-based activities, exercises and lots of games
- Stage 4 students will spend their time afloat in our two man boats
- For those who have completed RYA Stage 4 we also offer Day Sailing, Advanced Sailing and Spinnaker and Trapeze courses
Please note that we cannot guarantee completion of each stage during a one week course. As the scheme progresses so does the skill base and level of understanding required. We will only issue certificates when students can demonstrate the appropriate standard of sailing.
In the event of bad weather we have a full shore-based activity programme, courses will run regardless of weather conditions.
